Remind Messaging for Learning & Engagement

All schools and Metro Schools teachers are able to send messages via the two-way communication tool, Remind.

Schools & teachers can send messages to the whole class, a select group, or just individuals and families can opt to receive messages via text, email and/or calls. Remind logo

Remind Benefits

Families can receive quick and simple messages on things such as:

  • Homework assignments
  • Field trip updates
  • Schedule changes
  • Personalized student support or feedback
  • Upcoming class or school events
  • Transportation and bus updates

Additional benefits:

  • The Remind app - available in iOS and Android - is free to download, or families can choose to receive texts via SMS (carrier charges may apply).
  • The app is available in several languages and can automatically translate conversations into more than 90 languages. Individuals can set the preferred language they want to receive information in - regardless of the language the message was written in.

Remind Safety

It is important to note that Remind protects staff, student and family privacy. Here's how:

  • Your actual contact information is masked when you use Remind.
  • Users who violate Remind community standards or MNPS anti-bullying standards can be blocked or reported on Remind.
  • Two-way communication is only available for students over the age of 13 and parents must give permission for students under 13 to use Remind.
  • Remind is in compliance with data protection and privacy laws
    • FERPA (The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
    • COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule)
    • TCPA (The Telephone Consumer Protection Act)
    • GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation (EU))

Getting Started on Remind: Is Your Contact Information Correct?

  • Family contact information is based on information provided in the MNPS Campus Portal.
  • To make sure you receive messages, update and/or confirm your contact information in Campus Portal.
  • You also can add additional contact information in your Remind account.

Creating Your Remind Account

  • First-time users will receive a text message or email to the contact information found in the Campus Portal with instructions on claiming the Remind account.
  • Once you claim your account, you will be able to automatically join your student's classroom. You also may join classes, or especially created groups, by texting a specific code.
  • If you already have a Remind account, you will have the opportunity to merge them.
  • Note that not all schools and/or teachers may use Remind.

    • You can add additional contact information directly into your Remind account, but always ensure your Campus information is correct.

  • After you've joined a class, you can save the telephone number associated with that class, teacher or group to your contacts.
  • By District default, users will need to be approved by the class owner to receive messages or announcements. Until approved, you will not receive announcements.
